40 Day Bible Reading Challenge: Day 28 Jesus heals and calls followers to his banquet

In Mark Chapter 2, Jesus begins by healing a paralytic in Capernaum, demonstrating His authority to forgive sins. The event draws skepticism from scribes but also amazement from the crowd. Jesus then calls Levi, a tax collector, to follow Him, signifying His acceptance of societal outcasts. Levi hosts a banquet for Jesus with other tax collectors and sinners, which prompts the Pharisees to question Jesus' associations. He responds by stating He came for the sick, not the healthy.

The chapter continues with discussions about fasting and the Sabbath. Jesus is questioned why His disciples do not fast as John's disciples do. He explains new practices cannot be imposed on old traditions using the parable of new wine in old wineskins. Later, on the Sabbath, His disciples pluck grain, leading to accusations of law-breaking. Jesus defends them by citing David's actions when in need and declares Himself Lord of the Sabbath.
